"Jackie O"

Today I am in Dallas for an Art Therapy conference and I had a chance to break away to visit the site where JFK was shot and killed. It was fascinating and horrific at the same time to stand and gawk alongside the other tourists. I felt a bit morbid vying to see the X's in the street. We went inside the gift shop so that I could get a look at some of the memorabilia and this picture was on the wall. In my mind the news reel kept playing in my head... how she crawled over the seat to get to her husband after he had been shot.. her fearlessness and protective instinct kicking in. I always felt so sad for her and also admired how she held herself with such grace and dignity. It has been 46 years since he was killed and tomorrow is the anniversary of his death.
*I played around a bit with this photo. I tweaked the color a bit, overlaid it with a picture of broken glass that I had taken a while ago. I also added a sloppy border..

I love the story as well as the photo. How amazing to be there this weekend.

I was in ninth grade on November 22, 1963, so I have real-time memories living in my head. Were you born yet?
